the correct interpretation is "thou shall do no murder".. this can be researched.. the King James version from the greek...

Again I am not religious but one can assume that the difference in wording, murder/kill, is that kill includes converting animal into food in it's definitions. Murder "specifically implies stealth and motive and premeditation and therefore full moral responsibility" (taken from Webster.com). Premeditation, kind of like bombing a country.
Funny how the religious rarely practice what they preach.
